Myriam Witvrouw (°1964) obtained her PhD (1994) at the faculty of Medicine at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven for work on the anti-HIV activity and mechanism of action of entry inhibitors (Promoter: Prof. Dr. E. De Clercq, Rega Institute for Medical Research). Since 1994, she was responsible for the biological evaluation (antiviral activity and cytotoxicity) and preclinical development of anti-HIV drugs in cell culture including identification, optimization and mechanism of anti-HIV action studies of new anti-HIV compounds preferentially targeting alternative steps in the viral replication cycle and for the study of the molecular basis of antiviral drug resistance development of HIV ( In 2008 she became Associate Director HIV Virology of the Boehringer Ingelheim, a multinational pharmaceutical company.In 2009 she returned to KULeuven to join the EU-team of KULeuven Research and Development specialized in the coordination and management of European Projects.
